Why didn't an update for a game download?

So I just got NASCAR 2011 The Game...And it said there was an update for it(Xbox 360) and I downloaded it. Now I read online, that it was supposed to fix caution flags, and add paint schemes and stuff, but it didn't do any of that. So my question is, how can I tell if the patch downloaded or not? Maybe the game is just poo. By the way, If I close out the game, and go back in, it doesn't ask for an update or anything.
