My cat has thick black/brown rings around both irises?

they are thicker on the side where his nose is and thinner on the opposite side, i see all over the net that this is a sign of malnourishment but he is FAT and frolics like a perfectly healthy cat, ive only noticed something different about his eyes yesterday and just now got a good look at him any one know what it could be?
