Selector valve by pass on my truck?

I have a 1988 f 150 with the dual gas tanks, the back tank is bad and the front one has a hole. Is there a way i could run a line from an external tank to the fuel filter, and compleatly by pass the selector vale? or will all the efi sensors and relays go hay wire and stop working??
